Spring 2007
With fresh hangovers, FDG drops a 1-0 heartbreaker - 4.29.07
With the entire team remembering what its like to play with a hangover, FDG suffered a bitter 1-0 loss to the CL Silverbacks.
FDG never found their offense during the game, only allowing themselves a limited number of opportunities to put the ball in the back of the net. Tempers began to flair midway through the second half as bodies flew through the air and Gushman gave a dude a thunderplow just outside the box. Fortunately, a penalty had already been called..which meant that Gushman's thunderplow was completely unnecessary...but totally deserved.
After giving up the late goal, FDG tried to muster something that looked like offense, but to no avail...they still couldn't score and ended up losing the stupid effin' game.
Both CVSA and the captains for Mama Zu were gracious enough to postpone the next match. The game has been rescheduled for Thursday, May 10 at 6:15...Dorey Park..Field #4. It looks to be a good opportunity for FDG to put their entire team on the field for the first time all season.
FDG finds offense under the lights for second consecutive win - 4.25.07
FDG gets win after several weeks off - 4.22.07
Playing for the first time in three weeks, FDG overcame a sluggish start and the sweltering heat to prevail in a 2-1 victory over the Rogues.
FDG started the game shorthanded with many players struggling to make the 1:00 afternoon start on time fighting hangovers and traveling across the state. In the first half, FDG had several scoring opportunities, but failed to capitalize on any of them. The Rogues were able to connect on a ridiculously lucky shot from about 30 yards out while FDG's lack of fitness was exposed while the team ran around like chickens with their heads cut off. Late in the half FDG tried to string together an offensive attack with Gathright's patented "ass ball" and Sam tactfully making an opposing player lose her shoe, but the team couldn't click and they went into the half down 1-0.
In the second half, FDG started a little sloppy on defense, but Dax was able to pick up their slack as he made several saves early in the second half. After that, Clarke's hangover wore off for a few minutes and Patrick realized that your suppose to kick the ball into that big rectangular box, but not AT the keeper. Unable to put the ball away on a few good scoring chances, FDG was able to muster enough of an offensive attack to score two quick goals and play solid defense late in the half. Dax made several key saves late in the half that would have resulted in golden opportunities for the Rogues to tie the game.
The defense as a whole turned in a solid performance once they settled down, getting key plays from all of the defenders including Jackson who made the start in the field for the first time in his FDG career. Most fans and players would agree that it was Dax that was the defensive player of the game turning in a clutch performance in between the pipes in his spring debut. The midfielders and forwards showed flashes of greatness playing without their leading scorer for the second straight game and helped enough balls find the back of the net to pull out the win.
After the win, FDG now finds themselves in fourth place in the standing going into their next game against ROC, the team currently second in the standings. The match is scheduled for Wednesday night at 6:30 under the lights at Dorey Park.
